Jaime Martin to become Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Gävle Symphony Orchestra

In 2011 and 2012, the Gävle Symphony Orchestra hosted Spanish conductor, Jaime Martin. A unique chemistry between the conductor and the players led to exhilarating concerts, and as a result Jaime Martin has been engaged as Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the orchestra. He will take the position of Artistic Director on July 1, 2012, and of Principal Conductor on July 1, 2013. Both positions will run for four years.  Jaime will next conduct the Gävle Symphony Orchestra on 20th of September this fall.

Jaime has long been renowned as one of Europe’s leading solo and orchestral flautists, most recently as principal flute of London Philharmonic Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra of Europe. He is now rapidly emerging as a natural, fresh conducting talent. He has already conducted the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, English Chamber Orchestra and Orchestre National de Lyon, along with several Spanish symphony orchestras. He has been re-invited to the Orchestre National de Capitol de Toulouse, Academy of St Martin in the Fields, London Mozart Players, Irish Chamber Orchestra and Barcelona Symphony Orchestra. Future debuts include concerts with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Musikkollegium Winterthur, Lausanne Chamber Orchestra and Beijing Symphony Orchestra.   

In August this year Jaime will make his operatic debut conducting Zauberflote at El Escorial Festival in Madrid and San Sebastian Festival. In early 2013 he will make his debut at the English National Opera conducting Barber of Seville.

Sweden has a vibrant history of music making and this is an exciting time for the Orchestra, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. In close association with the players, I am very much looking forward to developing exciting programmes through collaborations with Swedish and International artists, as well as establishing artists' residencies, touring projects and recordings”, says Jaime Martin. 

Jaime Martin blir chefdirigent och konstnärlig ledare för Gävle Symfoniorkester

Under 2011 och 2012 gästades Gävle Symfoniorkester av den spanske dirigenten Jaime Martín. Vid dessa konserter uppstod en ömsesidig mersmak vilket lett fram till att Jaime Martin engagerats som konstnärlig ledare och chefdirigent för orkestern. Han tillträder som konstnärlig ledare 1 juli 2012 och som chefdirigent 1 juli 2013. Båda rollerna löper under fyra år. Närmast kommer Jaime att dirigera Gävle Symfoniorkester den 20 september.

Jaime har länge varit känd som en av Europas ledande solo- och orkesterflöjtister, senast som stämledare i London Philharmonic Orchestra och i Chamber Orchestra of Europe. Han har idag utvecklats till en både naturlig och modern dirigenttalang. Han har redan dirigerat orkestrar som Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, English Chamber Orchestra och Orchestre National de Lyon samt flera spanska symfoniorkestrar. Han har fått återinbjudan till Orchestre National de Capitol de Toulouse, Academy of St Martin in the Fields, London Mozart Players, Irish Chamber Orchestra och Barcelona Symphony Orchestra. Bland Jaimes kommande debuter märks London Philharmonic Orchestra, Musikkollegium Winterthur, Lausanne Chamber Orchestra och Beijing Symphony Orchestra. 

I höst, i augusti, gör Jaime sin operadebut när han dirigerar Trollflöjten vid El Escorial Festival i Madrid och San Sebastian Festival. I början av 2013 gör han sin debut på English National Opera med Barberaren i Sevilla.

Sverige har en levande historia av musicerande och det här är en spännande tid i orkesterns historia, som firar sitt 100-årsjubileum i år. I ett nära samarbete med musikerna ser jag verkligen fram mot att utveckla spännande program genom nya samarbeten med svenska och internationella artister, liksom att utveckla artists in residence samt kommande turnéprojekt och inspelningar", säger Jaime Martin.
